“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”- Reinhold Niebuhr (Niebuhr)
On this page, you will find many links to Change.org petitions. Change.org is a great asset in helping to fight childhood hunger, amongst other things, (this organization has many causes, which you can look thru on their site). When you visit their site, you will find many petitions, which you will be able to sign. What better way to help fight your cause than to sign a petition to Congress, or the President, asking that they amend Bills that are currently being put into action, or already in action.
You will find several types of petitions on this page. Not all are about childhood hunger, however; all affect children indirectly, causing food insecurities in many households. Countless people do not realize that the fight for childhood hunger does not stop with childhood hunger alone. There are various issues that can affect a family’s income, some of which are homelessness, health insurance, childcare costs, prescription costs, and much more.
I do not know about any of you, however; my son is on a prescription for high blood pressure, and one for acid reflux, totaling a monthly cost of over $300.00, and without health insurance, it would be a cost, which I could not afford. How can the government make us choose between feeding our children, and giving them the medications that they need to be healthy striving children? You will find on this page, a petition regarding health insurance for children. If you are like me, with a child in need of insurance, to pay for medical expenses, please take the time to sign this petition. It may help you put food on your table, (if we can get enough people to sign it,) by taking the cost of those medical expenses out of your pocket, and putting into theirs, the health insurance companies. Too many insurance companies are unwilling to insure children because of a pre-existing illness. It is not the child’s fault they are sick. Are they (health insurance companies) really going to let a child become extremely ill, or possibly die, because of an illness that the family cannot afford medical attention for, or become food deprived, because their family has to pay too much out of pocket to make sure their child is well. How can you make a parent decide between the two? Figuratively speaking, those families are “stuck between a rock and a hard spot.” If you had to make a choice between the two…could you? When my son was an infant, I was in that same predicament. He needed medication, but the insurance company refused to cover it, they said it cost too much. If they thought it cost too much, how do you think I could afford it? If you are in that same situation, send me an email thru this blog, and I can send you information on organizations that may be able to be of help to you.
You will also find links to petitions for helping homeless, and out of work Veterans. By signing those petitions, you will indirectly be helping many children, if the bill passes. Think about the numerous children that have parents who are veterans, and how you will be able to help their families, feed their children. We ask these people to fight, for our country, but what are we doing to repay them? We need to do more for the people who are risking their lives so that ours will be safe! If a veteran goes jobless, or even worse…homeless, their family suffers the consequences with them, which means food insecurities for the children, and the family.
"We accept the verdict of the past until the need for change cries out loudly enough to force upon us a choice between the comforts of further inertia and the irksomeness of action."- Learned Hand (Hand)
