About Me

I am in my first year of a Liberal Degree for Pre-Med at CCV, in Montpelier Vermont. I am currently trying to bring the Backpack for Food Program into my own community. I fully believe that NO child should ever go hungry and am trying to do my part in the fight against Childhood Hunger. I have learned from my own experiences what it is like to need state aid, and can empathize with others who already receive, or need to receive state aid to feed their families. I do not want anyone to suffer from hunger, especially children. That is why I started this blog, to get the word out about this very real, very serious issue. I want to give hope to people when they feel all hope is lost. I want to let people know that they are not alone, I have been there, and can be of help.

I have already posted my concerns regarding the SNAP program, and this is what I posted:

I do not believe the spending cuts should come from the ones most in need, society’s problem is not going to be solved by spending cuts in programs such as safety net programs, Health Care, ANFC, SNAP, or any other program, which is in place to help the people, or families, in who are in need of the most help.  We are not in a financial crisis because of the poor; it is because congress sees fit to leave 40% of America’s wealth, in the hands of only 2% of the United States population.
If we are to have any hope of ending this recession we are in, we need to find a way to disperse more of the country’s wealth, to the poor, especially if we ever want stimulate economy.  You cannot expect us to ameliorate business, by purchasing their products, when we are expected to pay $3.89 (or more), on fuel for our vehicles, this may not be an issue for you, however, try living on the wages an average worker lives on, and maybe then, you will understand the problem with society.
Did you take the 3Squares challenge this year?  If not, you should, especially before you allow any part of congress to make cuts in the SNAP program, it is morally wrong to take from helpless children, and that is what you are doing by making cuts from this program, you are taking from the mouths of the ones who need it the most.
Obesity is not caused by the amount of money people get on the SNAP program, it is caused by the cost of food, and healthy food needs to be made available, at a cost in which everyone can afford.  If you want to win the battle against obesity, go after the heart of the problem, the fast food cooperation's, do they really need to be selling burgers, which are three burgers in one, or do they really need to be selling a half to a whole pound of meat, within a burger?  Should the cost of health food really be more expensive than foods full of fats and sugars, I think not!
